HL Deb 15 February 1979 vol 398 cc1512-3WA
Lord MONSON

asked Her Majesty's Government:

How many refugees from Cambodia, Laos and Vietnam have been admitted for settlement by each member country of the EEC since April 1975.

Lord GORONWY-ROBERTS

According to the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees, our EEC partners had admitted (at 31st December 1978) the following numbers of Indo-Chinese refugees: Belgium 1,183; Denmark 404; France 45,699; the Federal Republic of Germany 2,319; Italy 250; Luxembourg 6 and the Netherlands 328.

The total number of Indo-Chinese refugees so far accepted for admission to the United Kingdom is 1,471 (this figure, unlike those produced by UHNCR, includes those admitted from Taiwan). In addition the Home Secretary announced in another place on 17th January that a further 1,500 Vietnamese refugees would be admitted to the United Kingdom during the next 12 to 15 months.
