HC Deb 13 February 1979 vol 962 cc465-6W
Mr. Tom Ellis

asked the Secretary of State for the Home Department what percentage of the electorate is eligible to sit on juries.

Mr. John

I regret that this information is not available. Under the Juries Act 1974 a person is qualified to serve as a juror if his name is on the electoral register, he is between 18 and 65 years old, he has been ordinarily resident in the United Kingdom, Channel Islands or Isle of Man for any period of at least five years since attaining the age of 13 and is not ineligible or disqualified for jury service by virtue of schedule 1 to the Act.
