asked the Secretary of State for Defence how many Service men have been made available to help with running essential services during the recent period of industrial action.

During the recent period of industrial action, about 1,000 Service men have been assisted in the maintenance of essential services, though much larger and fluctuating numbers have been at shortened notice of readiness.
