§ Mrs. Renéee Shortasked the Secretary of State for Employment how many working days were lost in strikes in the West Midlands area (a) between 1970 and February 1974 and (b) March 1974 to the latest available figures.
§ Mr. Harold Walker, pursuant to his reply [Official Report, 8 February 1979], gave the following information:
The latest available figures for the West Midlands for working days lost due to stoppages beginning in the following periods are:
- January 1970 to February 1974–8,103,000—monthly average 162,000.
- March 1974 to December 1977–5,416,000—monthly average 118,000.
Figures for 1978 are not yet analysed by area.
