Mr. Fry

asked the Secretary of State for Social Services (1) what would be the saving to the National Health Service if the consumption of alcohol were to be prohibited by law;

(2) what would be the saving to the National Health Service if hazardous sports involving injury risks were to be prohibited by law;

(3) what would be the saving to the National Health Service if the smoking of cigarettes were to be prohibited by law.

It is not possible to estimate the consequences for the National Health Service of any of these hypothetical situations.
