HL Deb 07 February 1979 vol 398 c818WA
Lord BROCKWAY

asked Her Majesty's Government:

What are the constituencies proposed when the number of Members of Parliament in Northern Ireland is increased and what are the proportions of Protestants and Catholics in each.

The MINISTER of STATE, NORTHERN IRELAND OFFICE (Lord Melchett):

The House of Commons (Redistribution of Seats) Bill which would increase the number of constituencies in Northern Ireland is still before Parliament and no new constituency boundaries have therefore been proposed.

The Independent Boundary Commission for Northern Ireland will continue to be responsible for recommending the constituencies into which Northern Ireland should be divided for the purposes of Parliamentary Elections.
