HC Deb 05 February 1979 vol 962 c58W
Mrs. Dunwoody

asked the Secretary of State for Social Services whether he will now consider the creation of an inspectorate for the ambulance service similar to the inspectorate of the police service, with a view to improving its overall administration.

Mr. Deakins

Not at present. Health authorities are responsible for providing ambulance services. The creation of a national inspectorate would be costly and I am doubtful whether it would help authorities to improve local administration.
