§ Mr. Churchillasked the Secretary of State for Foreign and Commonwealth Affairs if, in view of the attacks in recent weeks on villages in Somalia by Ethiopian aircraft, Her Majesty's Government will now reconsider their refusal to provide defensive military equipment to Somalia as already requested on two occasions by President Siad Barre.
§ Mr. RowlandsThe Government favour a peaceful negotiated settlement to the dispute between Ethiopia and Somalia. In present circumstances it is not Government policy to supply arms to either side. We hope that both parties will exercise restraint.
