§ Mr. Stephen Rossasked the Secretary of State for the Environment whether his Department has been consulted about 532W proposed alternations to the stone elevations of Yarmouth Castle, Isle of Wight, in connection with the reconstruction of the ferry terminal; whether consent has been given for this work to proceed; and if he is satisfied that all the statutory regulations applicable to an ancient monument have been complied with.
§ Mr. MonroThe Department has been consulted about the reconstruction of the ferry terminal, and outline permission has been given for the work to proceed. It will not necessitate alterations to the stonework at Yarmouth Castle. Full consultations are taking place with the Harbour Commissioners' consulting engineers, and precautions will be taken to ensure that neither the work nor the proximity of the ferries will adversely affect the castle.
