§ Mr. van Straubenzeeasked the Secretary of State for Education and Science whether he will make a statement on progress with pay negotiations for university non-clinical teachers.
§ Mr. Mark CarlisleI am glad to say that agreement has been reached by the Universities Academic Salaries Committee B on the following salary settlement for university non-clinical academic and related staff:
- (a)a uniform addition of 10 per cent. with effect from 1 October 1979 to all points of the scales currently in payment;
- (b) a reference to be made by the Government to the Standing Commission on Pay Comparability inviting the Commission to report on a basis of 1 October 1979; the scales negotiated as a result of that reference to be implemented in two stages on 1 April 1980 and 1 October 1980;
- (c) in view of the expected length of time before the Commission will be able to report, an interim increase of 6 per cent. at all points of the scales arrived at under (a) above, to take effect from 1 April 1980.
