Lord AVEBURY asked Her Majesty's Government:

What representations they have received about the inclusion of a question about ethnic origin in the 1981 Census and whether, in view of the widespread opposition to such a question amongst ethnic minorities themselves and the consequent unreliability of the statistics which would be derived from it, they will drop the question.
