asked the Minister of Transport whether he is satisfied with the efficiency of operation of the Driver and Vehicle Licensing Centre, Swansea.

I am satisfied with the improvements in efficiency that are being achieved by the centre. Naturally, I wish to see these improvements continue. Since the completion last year of the transfer of 35 million driver and vehicle records there has been a marked improvement in performance. Ninety-eight per cent of driver licences and over 90 per cent. of the centre's work on vehicles are dealt with within 10 working days. The centre deals with 60 million items of mail a year. Some mistakes are inevitable, but the volume of complaints has steadily decreased and ways of improving performance are continually being explored.
