HC Deb 13 December 1979 vol 975 cc709-10W
Mr. Critchley

asked the Prime Minister whether it is the intention of Her Majesty's Government to renew the mutual defence agreements with the United States of America for the purpose of nuclear co-operation and exchange first entered into in 1958 and 1959, renewed in 1969, and which are now due to expire on 31 December.

The Prime Minister

An amendment extending the material clauses of the 1958 atomic energy defence agreement for five years from 31 December 1979 was signed on 5 December 1979. It will take effect when the constitutional requirements have been met on both sides. The text of this amending agreement will be laid before Parliament in due course.
