HL Deb 12 December 1979 vol 403 cc1355-6WA
Viscount RIDLEY

asked Her Majesty's Government:

Whether they intend to carry out a review of the administration of National Parks in England and Wales in 1981 as had been proposed by the previous Government; if so, whether they will state (a) the terms of reference of such review, and (b) the proposed dates by which evidence or representations must be made; if not, whether they appreciate the importance of an early statement to that effect in view of the considerable burdens such review would have placed on local government and other interests.

Lord MOWBRAY and STOURTON

My right honourable friend the Secretary of State for the Environment will decide next summer whether to proceed with this review in the light of the response to the discussion paper,Conservation and the Countryside Heritage, recently published by the Countryside Review Committee. My right honourable friend will, of course, take into account the administrative burden such a review would place on the bodies involved.
