§ Mr. Spearingasked the Minister of Agriculture, Fisheries and Food if he will state the amount paid in for the years 1977–78 and 1978–79 by sugar beet growers to the home grown sugar beet research and education fund; and to what end these sums are devoted.
§ Mr. StrangSugar beet growers contributed £414,830 in 1977–78 and provisionally £460,248 in 1978–79 to the research and education fund. The fund meets the cost of annual programmes of research and education in matters affecting the growing of home-grown beet and the objective of the programmes is to increase the efficiency of sugar beet growing.
