HL Deb 04 April 1979 vol 399 c1964WA
Lord HOUGHTON of SOWERBY

asked Her Majesty's Government:

What steps have been taken by the State Veterinary Service or other public authority to inspect the conditions in which horses awaiting slaughter have been kept at Huddersfield and Norwich during the recent severe weather.

Lord STRABOLGI

Regular inspection visits by the State Veterinary Service have been maintained to these export-approved slaughterhouses. Local authorities are responsible for enforcement of the prevention of cruelty legislation. Her Majesty's Government do not receive returns of visits made by local authority officers.
