§ Lord AVEBURYasked Her Majesty's Government:
How many persons have been deported to Rhodesia in each calendar year since the Unilateral Declaration of Independence following court recommendations, on grounds that their presence was not conducive to the public good or following breaches of immigration control, respectively; what criteria the Secretary of State applied in these cases; and on what travel documents the deportees left the country.
§ Lord BOSTON of FAVERSHAMSince 1st January 1973 two people have been deported to Rhodesia. One of these was deported in 1976 for overstaying; he wished to rejoin his wife and family in Rhodesia. The other was deported in 1978 on the recommendation of a court; it had not been suggested that she would be in any danger if she returned to Rhodesia, and no good reason could be seen for not acting on the court's recommendation. Both these people held passports issued by the illegal régime in Rhodesia.
Information for the years before 1973 is not readily available and could only be obtained at disproportionate expense.
