§ Mr. Georgeasked the Secretary of State for Foreign and Commonwealth Affairs if, in the light of the assassination of British ambassadors, he is prepared to make a statement on security arrangements for diplomatic staff abroad.
§ Mr. TomlinsonSecurity arrangements for British diplomatic staff abroad are made in conjunction with the host Governments, with whom overall responsibility for protection rests in accordance with the Vienna Convention. The arrangements vary from country to country and from one situation to another. But we are naturally reviewing these arrangements.
Host Governments and we ourselves have increased protective measures and precautions at British missions overseas following the assassination of Sir Richard Sykes and a member of his domestic staff.
