§ Mr. MoyleDetails of the amounts received by individual consultants over and above their salaries are not available. The total number of domiliary visits carried out by consultants in England for the 12 month period ending 30 September 1978 amounted to 397,852.
Consultants undertake these visits to a patient's home at the request of his general practitioner, where advice and diagnosis have been sought in this way because, on medical grounds, the patient cannot attend hospital.
The basic fee for each visit is currently £12.30 and the maximum remuneration a consultant can receive in any one year from undertaking domiciliary visits is £3,690.
