Mr. Kilroy-Silk

asked the Secretary of State for Industry if he will block all financial assistance to Akzo Chemie UK Ltd., for the resiting of the factory and laboratory it intends to close in Kirkby.

Mr. Les Huckfield

I am advised that the company does not intend to resite the factory. Akzo has not applied for financial assistance for a laboratory at Rochdale. However, assistance for the physical move of the laboratory facilities is precluded because it involves a move within a development area.

asked the Secretary of State for Industry what is the total sum of money given in grants to Akzo Chemie UK Ltd. for its Kirkby plant.

Akzo Chemie UK Limited has received a total of £309,016 in regional development grants for its Kirkby plant.
