Mr. W. E. Garrett

asked the Secretary of State for Employment if he will publish in the Official Report the names of all the manufacturing companies in the Northern region which have closed over the past year, and the number of workers each made redundant.

A comprehensive list of all manufacturing companies in the Northern region which have closed over the past year is not available. The following list shows the establishments employing 10 or more workers in the Northern region whose closure has been notified to the Department of Employment during 1978 and the number of workers made redundant in each case.

In some cases closure affected only a branch of the firm concerned.

I regret that my Department has no comprehensive list of firms who set up business in Northern region during the past year.
