HC Deb 24 October 1978 vol 955 c803W
Sir Frederic Bennett

asked the Secretary of State for Foreign and Commonwealth Affairs if he will take steps to adapt British policy on the admission of Mr. Ian Smith in line with the policy adopted by the United States Government; and if he will make a statement.

Dr. Owen

Each Government's policy in this matter must be determined by their assessment of the relevant political and legal factors as well. I shall keep this issue under review and would take any necessary action which would contribute to the joint Anglo-Americal objective of all-party talks leading to a peaceful settlement.
