HC Deb 24 October 1978 vol 955 cc853-4W
Mr. Sainsbury

asked the Secretary of State for the Environment how many noise abatement zones have been declared by local authorities in England and Wales; what is the estimated cost of each noise abatement zone; and how many additional local authority staff are required in each case for (a) monitoring and (b) enforcement.

Mr. Denis Howell

Twenty-seven noise abatement orders have been made in England and Wales; of these the Secretaries of State have so far confirmed 18.

The other information requested by the hon. Member is not available centrally The question of what resources to devote to noise abatement zones is one for local authorities to decide, within the overall constraints applying to their expenditure.
