Sir Timothy Kitsonasked the Secretary of State for the Home Department if, in view of the fact that the constitution of Durham county council is 41 Socialists, 14 Conservatives, 10 Independents and seven Liberals, while the constitution of the police committee is made up of 24 Socialist members of the county council, plus 13 co-opted magistrates, he will introduce legislation to ensure that proper representation is given to political 357W parties in order that police committees within county councils are not monopolised by one political party.
