Mr. David Watkins

asked the Secretary of State for Energy what reports of public inquiries into opencast mining applications he is considering currently; and when he expects to announce his decisions.

Mr. Benn:

The inspectors' reports following public inquiries on the Tanners Hall and Buckhead sites, in County Durham, and Amberswood, in Greater Manchester. I am not yet able to forecast the dates when I shall be able to announce my decisions but it will be as soon as possible.
