asked the Secretary of State for Scotland if he will publish a table listing for each region the respective schemes and their costs under (a) the job creation programme, and (b) the environmental improvement programme, including schemes for the treatment and clearance of derelict land; and what sums and projects have been approved for the future, region by region, in Scotland.

Mr. Gregor MacKenzie:

Environmental improvement and derelict land clearance are now matters primarily for the Scottish Development Agency. However, 1,405 of the 3,981 schemes approved in Scotland under the job creation programme since its inception in 1975 have involved environmental work. It is not practicable to list projects individually or to provide a regional analysis of schemes with an environmental component, but the following table shows the total number and cost to the Manpower Services Commission of job creation programme projects approved in each region. The job creation programme will terminate on 31st December 1978.

asked the Secretary of State for Scotland what sums the Scottish Development Agency has made available or allocated for each region in Scotland, for each year since its inception under (a) the job creation programme and (b) the environmental improvement programme, including funds spent on the clearance and treatment of derelict land, giving the figures region by region.

As environmental improvement and derelict land clearance are now primarily matters for the agency, which has also provided funds in support of projects under the job creation programme, I have asked the chairman to write to the hon. Member.
