HC Deb 16 November 1978 vol 958 cc368-9W
Mrs. Renee Short

asked the Secretary of State for Northern Ireland why the exhibition "Art for Society" was cancelled by the trustees of the Ulster museum, Belfast.

Mr. Carter

The exhibition "Art for Society" was sponsored by the Arts Council for Northern Ireland and was to have been shown at the Ulster museum. The trustees of the museum considered that a number of items were unsuitable for display in the museum and proposed that they be withdrawn. It was apparently not possible to arrange this to the trustees' satisfaction, and they therefore decided not to proceed with the exhibition.

My noble Friend, the Minister of State, has written to the trustees asking them to reconsider their decision.
