HC Deb 15 November 1978 vol 958 c227W
Mr. Patrick McNair-Wilson

asked the Secretary of State for Prices and Consumer Protection what discussions he has had with the major oil companies about their plans to increase petrol pump prices; and if he will make a statement.

Mr. Maclennan

General oversight of the activities of the oil companies is the responsibility of my right hon. Friend the Secretary for Energy.

My right hon. Friend the Secretary of State for Prices and Consumer Protection last saw the oil companies on 7th and 8th June. He has no immediate plans to meet them again. Whether any intended price increase or change in trading terms by any individual company is a notifiable price increase, and whether it should be investigated, is a matter for the Price Commission.
