HL Deb 09 November 1978 vol 396 c635WA
Lord AVEBURY

asked Her Majesty's Government:

Whether they will indemnify a German citizen, Fraulein Waleski, about whom the Minister of State at the Home Office wrote on 19th October, against any penalties she may suffer as a result of an entry having been made in her identity card by an immigration officer, contrary to German law; and whether they will furnish Fraulein Waleski with an official letter in German which she can show the German authorities, explaining that the entry in question was made in error by an immigration officer.

The MINISTER of STATE, HOME OFFICE (Lord Harris of Greenwich)

No. We have been informed that the fact that a reference number was placed on Miss Waleski's identity card by the immigration officer will not make her liable to a penalty in Germany.
