HC Deb 07 November 1978 vol 957 c172W
Mr. Watkinson

asked the Secretary of State for Defence how many low-flying aircraft passed over North Gloucestershire in the last three months.

Mr. Wellbeloved

I am afraid that low flying records are not related to county boundaries and it would, therefore, take a disproportionate amount of effort to answer this question.

Mr. Watkinson

asked the Secretary of State for Defence what is the average number of days per week and per month, respectively, that low-flying aircraft pass over North Gloucestershire.

Mr. Wellbeloved

This information is not immediately available. I will write to the hon. Member.

Mr. Watkinson

asked the Secretary of State for Defence between what heights low-flying aircraft usually fly.

Mr. Wellbeloved

Most of the low-flying training takes place between 250ft. and 500ft. above the ground.

Mr. Watkinson

asked the Secretary of State for Defence whether, to minimise the noise and disturbance to persons living in areas over which low-flying aircraft pass, he issues instructions that there should be variations in the flight paths.

Mr. Wellbeloved

Yes, whenever practicable.
