asked the Minister for the Civil Service what priority is given to sheltered workshops in respect of Government ordering by his Department or any industries sponsored by it; whether he will accept the recent recommendations of the National Advisory Council for the Employment of Disabled People in this respect; and if he will make a statement.

Subject to prices being competitive, sheltered workshops, together with other priority suppliers, are given first priority in the allocation of Government orders. Most of the major nationalised industries also operate preferential purchasing arrangements in this field. The report of the National Advisory Council for the Employment of Disabled People is still under consideration.
