HC Deb 24 May 1978 vol 950 c624W
Mr. Corbett

asked the Minister of Agriculture, Fisheries and Food on what dates Ministry veterinary officers carried out inspections at a poultry battery unit at the Convent of Our Lady of Passion, Badby Road, Daventry, Northamptonshire; what are the makes and dimensions of the cages used; what were the stocking densities; what was the average weight of birds at end of lay; and how many birds were found in the unit.

Mr. Strang

These premises were visited on 22nd March by a Ministry veterinary officer. I would not want to give details of the operation of a private business, but I can say that he found no evidence that the birds were suffering unnecessary pain or distress in contravention of Section 1(1) of the Agriculture (Miscellaneous Provisions) Act 1968.
