§ Mr. Peter Morrisonasked the Secretary of State for Social Services how many people of New Commonwealth and Pakistani ethnic origin are estimated to reside within the North-West Economic Planning Region.
§ Mr. DeakinsOn the basis of information collected in the 1971 Census of Population the Registrar-General estimates that there were then approximately 95,000 people of New Commonwealth and Pakistani—NCWP—ethnic origin living in the North-West region as then defined. No later information is available on a regional basis.
The population of NCWP ethnic origin is here defined as persons born in the New Commonwealth or Pakistan who are not of United Kingdom descent, plus children born in Britain to parents of NCWP ethnic origin, including children with only one such parent. As a result of the boundary changes made in 1974 the total population of the North-West region was decreased by 2 per cent.
