HC Deb 24 May 1978 vol 950 cc600-1W
Mr. Pavitt

asked the Secretary of State for Social Services how many hospital closures in England he has approved in the last 12 months; in how many cases the closure was opposed by the community health council concerned; and if he will list in the Official Report the cases where he upheld the community health council and refused the closure.

Mr. Moyle

Only closure proposals opposed by the local community health council, a minority of all such proposals, come to my right hon. Friend for final decision. In the period 1st June 1977 to 22nd May 1978, 22 closures have been approved, including two part closures, and three proposals for closure submitted have not been approved, including one part closure. They areSt. Nicholas' Hospital, Plumstead; Stoke Mandeville Hospital, Buckinghamshire—part closure— and Oakmere Rehabilitation Centre, Cheshire
