§ Mr. Brothertonasked the Secretary of State for the Home Department what is the total number of people who, since its inception 10 years ago, have been released from prison on parole or licence; and of that number how many have committed further offences whilst away from prison on parole or licence;
(2) how many prisoners have failed to keep in touch with probation officers whilst on release from prison on parole or licence since the introduction of the system 10 years ago.
§ Mr. JohnFrom the introduction of the parole scheme in 1968 to the end of 1976, 824 out of a total of 26,905 people released on parole from determinate sentences had their licences revoked for failing to keep in touch with supervising officers; and 830 had their licences revoked primarily because of the commission of further offences. The requested 561W information is not available in respect of those children and young persons, young prisoners and persons serving extended sentences who, after detention in prison were released on licence otherwise than through the parole scheme.
