Mr. David Price

asked the Secretary of State for Education and Science what is the total number of different forms which her Department, and its subordinate agencies, currently have available for different purposes requiring completion by members of the general public; and how that number compares with the answer given to the hon. Member for Eastleigh on 8th March 1976.

I refer to your query which was originally tabled as a Written Question for 21st March.
I am sorry that it was not possible for me to give a full reply to your Written Question on 23rd March, and, of course since then the Easter recess has intervened.
For the purpose of replying to your Question, I give information about teachers in the maintained, assisted and grant-aided sectors, excluding independent educational establishments and the universities. Our information on teacher numbers is fully comprehensive only in respect of those in full-time regular service. The numbers in that category, as at 31st March each year, are given in Table 1 below.
