Mr. Freud

Mr. Ennals

I will let the hon. Member have a reply as soon as possible.

document "The Way Forward", illustrate the—generally—higher levels of over current national rates that particular are consistent with assumed resource constraints.

Mr. Freud

asked the Secretary of State for Social Services what is currently the number of administrators in the National Health Service; and what is the ratio of doctors to administrators.

Mr. Moyle

There is no way of distinguishing "administrators" from the general class of administrative and clerical staff as there is no agreed definition of an administrator for this purpose.

At 30th September 1976, the latest date for which figures are available, the total number of administrative and clerical staff in the National Health Service was 98,507. The ratio of all doctors to administrative and clerical staff was 1:1.8. Figures are for England.
