§ Mr. Sproatasked the Secretary of State for Education and Science what has been the total cost of running the Advisory Committee on Conscientious Objectors, including all main constituent costs of any sort whatsoever, such as expenditure on its own programmes, wages, rent, heating and lighting, maintenance, &c., in the latest 12 months for which figures are available; and what are the projected costs for 1978–79.
§ Dr. GilbertI have been asked to reply.
The Committee met once during the year ending 31st March 1978. Fees and expenses, including the expenses of appellants and witnesses, amounted to about £215, which represented the only identifiable cost involved. While the Committee tends to meet on average about three times a year, it is impossible to give a precise estimate for the financial year 1978–79 as meetings are arranged only as required.
