§ Mr. Kilfedderasked the Chancellor of the Exchequer whether the replacement of family allowances by child benefit, when taken together with the phasing out of tax allowances for children, is less advantageous for families with incomes in the middle range who are already expected to make a contribution towards the grants available under the students awards regulations.
§ Mr. Robert SheldonThe student grant arrangements for the academic years 1977–78 and 1978–79 include reductions in parental contributions which compensate for the reductions in child tax allowances in the corresponding fiscal years.
