§ Mrs. Wiseasked the Secretary of State for Social Services whether he will seek to prevent tobacco companies from conducting postal or door to door sales 498W drives, which involve sending letters and price reduction coupons which may be addressed to children, and which run counter to the public policy of discouraging children and young people from starting to smoke.
§ Mr. MoyleA voluntary agreement between the tobacco industry and the Department states that cigarette manufacturers should take special care to ensure that promotional material is directed only to adult smokers, so as to reduce the possibility of its coming into the hands of people under 18 years of age. If my hon. Friend has information to show that this agreement has been broken, I shall be glad to look into the matter.
