§ Sir J. Langford-Holtasked the Secretary of State for the Home Department what have been the reasons given for leaving the service by officers who have left the service of the West Mercia Police Authority during the last 12 months.
§ Mr. Merlyn ReesI am informed by the chief constable that the reasons given in respect of the 191 officers who left the West Mercia Constabulary in the last 12 months were:
Reason Number of officers Retirement on pension 49 Requirement to resign on medical grounds 11 Resignations: Poor pay and to take jobs with better prospects and pay 58 Domestic reasons or pregnancy in the case of females 8 Dislike of shift work 9 Lost interest in job 2 Considered themselves, or were considered, unsuitable 35 Following internal inquiries 6 No specific reason 1 Dismissal 3 Transferred to other forces 9 In addition, one officer died in service during this period.
