Mr. Wakeham

asked the Secretary of State for the Environment what is the estimate of the reduction in the number of new mortgages available during the next 12 months if the Building Societies Association conforms to the Government request to reduce its lending from £700 million a month to £600 million a month assuming the average wage stays the same.
