Mr. Richard Wainwright

asked the Secretary of State for Social Services what was the number of hospital nurses per 1,000 population in the Yorkshire region for the three years 1975, 1976 and 1977.

Figures for 1977 are not yet available. In 1975 and 1976 there were 119.74 and 115.03 whole-time-equivalent hospital nurses per 1,000 population respectively. These figures exclude nursing cadets, hospital midwives, agency staff and blood transfusion service nurses.

asked the Secretary of State for Social Services what was the percentage increase in the number of hospital nurses employed in each health authority in the Yorkshire region between the years 1975 and 1977.
