HC Deb 29 June 1978 vol 952 cc668-71W
Mr. Carter-Jones

asked the Secretary of State for Social Services if he will list for each area health authority in the last year for which figures are available the total number of births under 2,000 grams, the percentage this represented of all births and the stillbirth, perinatal and infant mortality rates of babies born weighing less than 2,000 grams.

Mr. Moyle

The latest information on the birthweight category 2,000 grams or less is for the year 1976 and is listed below for each area health authority in England. Figures on the infant mortality rates by birthweight category are not available.

The stillbirth rates and the perinatal mortality—comprising still births and deaths in the first week of life—rates are expressed as a percentage of total (live and still) births of 2,000 grams or less.
