Mr. Sillars

asked the Secretary of State for Defence (1) if the Government finance purchases of military aircraft by borrowing or out of revenue;

(2) if the Government finance research and development aid to military aircraft projects by borrowing or out of revenue.

Research, development and purchase of military aircraft are financed out of moneys voted by Parliament for these purposes. Questions about the financing of Government expenditure in general are for my right hon. Friend the Chancellor of the Exchequer.
