asked the Secretary of State for Wales how much was spent per mile on trunk roads in each of the Welsh counties during the last year for which figures are available; what were the corresponding figures for the last three years; and if he will make a statement.

These figures cover trunk roads and motorways and the totals for Gwent for 1975–76 and 1976–77 and for the Glamorgan Counties for the three years 1974 to 1977 thus include expenditure on the M4. All the figures also include all expenditure on new construction and improvement, maintenance and lighting, but exclude expenditure on administration.
