HC Deb 31 July 1978 vol 955 c41W
Mr. Arthur Lewis

asked the Secretary of State for Industry whether, as a means of reducing the cost of living and reducing the inflationary spiral, he will give a general direction to the Post Office to reduce its prices by £150 million annually.

Mr. Les Huckfield

No. The chairman of the Post Office has said there will be no increase in the main posts and telecommunications prices before the end of 1978, so that the cost of telecommunication services will have remained unchanged for over three years since October 1975 and the cost of letter services will have remained unchanged for at least 18 months since June 1977.
