asked the Secretary of State for Scotland how many standard, conversion, improvement and repairs grants were paid by each authority in 1977–78; and what was the total cost in each area.

Mr. Tebbit

asked the Secretary of State for Scotland if he will list the total number of housing grants, both public and private and discretionary improvement, standard and special grants, in Scotland in the following periods (a) July 1945 to October 1951, (b) October 1951 to October 1964, (c) October 1964 to June 1970, (d) June 1970 to February 1974 and (e) February 1974 to the latest available date.

The number of applications for grant approved can be extracted from issues of the "Housing Return for Scotland", available in the House of Commons Library. This return is being superseded by a more comprehensive publication, Scottish Housing Statistics, the first issue of which will be for the first quarter of 1978 and will be published in August.
