HC Deb 31 July 1978 vol 955 cc34-5W
Mr. Maxwell-Hyslop

asked the Minister of Agriculture, Fisheries and Food (1) why his Department is still studying the recommendation of the Expenditure Committee published more than three months ago to prohibit discarding at sea of fish subject to quota or licensing; and when he expects to make his mind up on what to do about it;

(2) when his Department expects to publish its response to the report of the Expenditure Committee on the British fishery industry which was published in April 1978.

Mr. Bishop

The report of the Expenditure Committee, which was published at the beginning of May, covers a great deal of ground and contains a large number of recommendations. The Government are giving the report, including the specific recommendation on discarding at sea, the careful consideration which it deserves and do not want to deal with the report piecemeal. We cannot at this stage forecast when the Government will publish their reply.
