§ Mr. Rookerasked the Secretary of State for Social Services if he will make a statement outlining action taken by local authorities under the duty laid on them by section 1(2)(a) of the Chronically Sick and Disabled Persons Act 1970 and list for each district council or county council the number of times, if any, that they have made known the services to the disabled as required by the said section.
§ Mr. Alfred MorrisI regret that I am unable to provide the information sought128W by my hon. Friend. Information about the services available is disseminated by local authorities in a wide variety of ways and forms part of the continuing programme of help to disabled people which is offered by social services departments. But it would not be practicable to present this activity in a statistical form. My hon. Friend will be interested to see the report of the study on "Physically Disabled People Living at Home: A Study of Numbers and Needs" by Professor Michael Warren and Mrs. Rose Knight of the Health Services Research Unit of the University of Kent at Canterbury. This will be published very shortly and a copy will be placed in the Library. The findings of the study are relevant to issues connected with sections 1 and 2 of the Act.
